Speak Softly & Carry a Big Stick

A zen stick is a tool used in meditation to "overcome sleepiness and lapses in concentration".

Lex and I occasionally joke about the fact that we each carry a zen stick when attempting to teach a lesson - usually to use on the other but sometimes to use on others also on self-awareness journeys.

We don't actually have sticks...just, you know, in case one of you (hi, Mom) starts worrying that someone's going to lose an eye.

Anyway, I'm usually quite adept at wielding the stick gently, using a slight "tap" to get the grasshoppa to re-focus, change perception, wake up.

However, there are days...like today...where I am vulnerable, distracted, pensive - and I find myself bludgeoning the grasshoppa over the head.

I am sorry, Grasshoppa. I have just used the zen stick to tap my own self.
