It's All Downhill from Here

I suppose it ought not surprise me to be eating supper after 9 p.m. on the longest day of the year.

It was just that kind of day.

I've been stupendously booked for the last couple of weeks - something every night after work, something every day and night of the weekends - and today was no exception.

It didn't help that I ran late for everything on my calendar starting with the late arrival of the Hertz car rental man who was supposed to meet me at the auto body shop at 7:15.

I would like to take this brief opportunity to mention that morning rush hour traffic on Arapahoe Road? No joy.

Today someone told me he thought I was popular because I'm so busy.

Ha! Me. Popular.

That's hysterical.

I've never been popular in my entire life. Even among the freaks and geeks I had 2 or 3 friends and a few acquaintances but certainly never what you would ever call popular.

Now I'm fortunate to have several good friends - some going back nearly 30 years and some I might as well have known that long - who run in different circles from each other. There is some overlap but mostly it's different sets of friends with whom I do very different things.

Occasionally I can merge the groups somewhat by organizing a church o' brunch but mostly - if I want to see everyone on a semi-regular basis - I have to overbook myself.

And I've been doing that recently.

I would have it no other way. There is no one I would want to exclude from my calendar.

But the bags under my eyes evident in a picture taken by a friend on Saturday would indicate perhaps Jane, in her infinite wisdom, should know to take a rest.

That and to lay off the wine and gin for a few days.

What can I say? It's summer. Gin and tonic goes with summer like sunscreen and bug repellent.

Hmm, I feel slightly guilty for contributing to your overbooked-ness this week! But not guilty enough to cancel our plans! ;) But really - if some other day would be better, feel free to let me know! Can't have you getting all run down & frazzled...
