The Grasshoppa Learns from the Gas Station Clerk

I have a favorite gas station where I purchase a coffee and/or a diet Pepsi every day during the work week. I know all the attendants by name, know details about their personal lives, and they know me.

This afternoon, I went in to get gas and a caffeinated beverage. T was working.

She came over to me and she said "I really like you. And because I like you, I'm going to tell you a secret. The emotions you experience in the hours leading up to the new year are what you will bring with you into the new year. It'll define your year for you. If you argue with someone, that argument's emotions will follow you. If you choose to be happy and filled with love, regardless of the kind of love, those emotions will follow you. Choose wisely."

That idea, as simple as it would seem, was something I'd never considered and struck me as some of the most profound words I've heard in awhile.

So! As I get ready to venture out to a house party in my party shoes, I know I will be taking these things with me into the new year:

* The love of fabulous friends
* Laughter
* Acceptance
* Inner peace
* Excitement
* Letting go of negativity and things that were not meant to be

I hope you all have a wonderful start to the new year. Wave goodbye, say hello.
