If Memory Serves

I have an awesome memory.

Remembering names, faces, birthdates, family and friend connections - that's a forte. When I worked at the elementary school and tended to over 600 wriggling children, I prided myself on the ability to remember who was who, what teacher each student was assigned to, the names of the parents and siblings.

Even better, if you want to know who said what to whom at the pep rally for the NC vs. KW Oil Bowl game back in 1988 to start that one argument that ended a friendship between so and so...I'm your girl.

Or rather...I was your girl.

In the last year, I've lost my ability to remember anything.

When I meet new people, names have to be repeated more often than not and I may not remember having met someone until I've met them 3 or 4 times. I don't remember where I'm supposed to be on any given day, even after looking at my agenda for the day. I often have no recollection where I've left my keys, or my checkbook, or my netbook. I forget to respond to important e-mails. I forget to call people back. I've started depending on my calendar so much, I have it set up to text me 10 minutes before I'm supposed to be somewhere in addition to sending me a daily agenda and appointment reminders. *sigh*

I don't know if it's chemical - hormonal if I need to spell that out, or if I am just busier than I ever used to be, or if I'm slowly going kuh-ray-zee.

But my memory no longer serves me well.

And that's a bummer.

Have a doc do a blood check? Maybe a vitamin or mineral deficiency? Thyroid or other bit of you acting up? Too much lead? Never hurts to rule that stuff out...
