I didn't spend today in my pajamas after all. I suppose it's what I get for thinking I know what a day may hold in store for me.
Instead, Acr0nym called early-ish, after I'd gone to the store but before I'd made any lunch, to talk about possible road tripping ideas for weekend after next (much more on that later) and then introduced a plan begging to be hatched for today...
A pre-road trip road trip to the Wonder Tower in Genoa, CO - a road trip we'd mulled over for months. The description on the Road Side Attractions website is pretty well spot on except that I think Jerry is old and feeling tired because he only quizzed us on 1 of the 10 "Guess What" items.
It took us almost 4 hours to get there - 100 miles - though because, turns out, Acr0nym and I like to road trip in about the same way. Which is to say, "Hey! Stop! Did you see that? What the hell was that?!" We poked around in truck stops where Acr0nym scored, not one but, 3 (count them THREE) cheesy truck stop knives! and even hit the Alco, similar to Pamida or Gibsons if you're from Wyoming and remember those, in Limon where Acr0nym bought chow mein in a can just cuz neither of us had seen it in 30 years.
The Wonder Tower is, in and of itself, worthy of its own post so I won't describe it until I've got the pictures Acr0nym took to do it justice (my camera ran out of battery juice just as we were getting there).
The return trip included a bit of a lovely rainstorm and supper at the only "upscale" restaurant - and by upscale I mean diner food done well in a dining room that was attempting to be upscale by adding christmas lights - in Limon. The prices were reasonable, the food hot and tasty, the service...uh slow but about what you'd expect from a 15-year-old working his first job.
Both of us were soul satisfied by the day. We kept exclaiming randomly how glad we were we'd made the trip and how glad we were that we'd made the trip together.
It was, hands down, one of the most fulfilling days I've had in I don't know how long.
Road tripping with the BFF, good music low in the background, conversations peppered with, "Whoa! What was that?", cold beverages at the ready, cigarette smoke billowing out respective windows, smiles, giggles (from me...Acr0nym totally does not giggle), grins...
This was, quite possibly, a perfect day.
Thanks, Acr0nym. No, really. Thanks.
