Colorado is burning.

The High Park fire northwest of Fort Collins has been burning out of control since June 9 consuming nearly 100,000 acres and destroying more than 200 homes.
The Waldo Canyon fire forced the evacuation of the entire town of Manitou Springs.
To make matters potentially much worse, there is a hyperactive arsonist making trouble in Teller County, setting 20 21 quickly contained fires over the course of the last week. Crazy fucker.
Even though Denver is miles away from the fires themselves, the smoke has laid a blanket over us - the mountains no longer visible at times - and the air is permeated with the stench of what smells like a particularly obnoxious campfire with an underlying odor of dreams and memories burned to a crisp.
Additionally, since last Monday, the temperatures have hit triple digits 7 days out of the last 9, breaking heat records left and right.
Frankly, it's too hot to move. It's too smoky to breathe.
And people are starting to get nuts.
Send rain or air conditioning or, at the very least, 10 tons of sorbet.
We're burning.
EDITED AT 7:16 p.m.:
A thunderstorm rolled in earlier this afternoon providing a small, but welcome, respite from the sun. However, there was little moisture and, unfortunately, it was mostly cloud-to-ground lightning and wind.
Now Boulder is burning. There are roughly 20 homes that have been evacuated and many many more that have been issued pre-evacuation orders.

I have family living in Ft. Collins so I've been keeping up with that fire. Our days of double digit heat start next week. You would think that Florida would send us some of their 3-20 (yes, 20) inches of rain!!

Ugh. I will send rain and cooler weather vibes your way. I'm not sure it will help, but I'll definitely pay attention to what's going on there.
I agree with simplyred - you do have an amazing way with words --
Several years ago we had a similar combination of circumstances here in NorCal - the whole north part of the state was blanketed in smoke and the temps were high - at least we could head over to the coast and get some momentary relief. Fingers crossed that Florida treats you well and shares the rain - but don't count on it.
Ugh, these stories have been breaking my heart. I remember the Hayman Fire very well, and these all add up to much more heartache.
I'd send you rain and cooler temps, but Austin doesn't have any to spare either. Damn summer.

Wow, I miss so much when I don't read the newspaper. I had no idea this is happening. Let me talk to the gods, and see what I can do. But really, I do wish there was something I could do.
This gives me goosebumps. Thinking of everyone in that area, and praying for safety for you all!

My heart goes out to those poor people who've lost and are losing their homes. I hope rain and cool are on their way.
