I am not a fan of pranks and practical jokes. I believe they are nearly always mean spirited - even if the intent is just good fun. Pranks exploit an unwitting person's fears and weaknesses and, in my mind, laughter at the nonconsensual expense of another is just not cool.
Having said that, I find this prank, in addition to mean spirited, simultaneously hysterical and profoundly sad. Can you imagine what a traumatic experience this must have been? And what was the outcome? Did it introduce doubt in her faith or did it push her over the edge of fundamentalism?
